Message from the Chair - Merv Hill


Welcome to the South East Wales Advanced Drivers (SEWAD) website which is a local group of the RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders Association (RoADAR) and offers you the opportunity to learn safe and defensive driving techniques.

What is Advanced Driving?
It is the ability to control the position and speed of the vehicle safely, systematically and smoothly, using road and traffic conditions to make reasonable progress unobtrusively, with skill and responsibility. This skill requires a positive but courteous attitude and a high standard of driving competence based on concentration, effective all round observation, anticipation and planning. This must be co-ordinated with good handling skills. The vehicle will always be in the right place on the road at the right time, travelling at the right speed with the correct gear engaged and can always be stopped safely in the distance that can be seen to be clear.

Drivers wishing to join the Group have a choice of 2 packages - the Premier package or the Standard package as detailed below:

 

The Premier Package is ideal for experienced drivers who are prepared to practice hard and learn the system of car control with the aim of obtaining a good pass in the Advanced Test.*

The Premier Package comprises:

    - An initial driving assessment with a volunteer SEWAD Approved Tutor

    - Regular  on road Tutorials** with a SEWAD Approved Tutor

    - A copy of ROADCRAFT, the Police Driver's Handbook

    - A copy of the latest version of the Highway Code

    - Membership of the South East Wales Advanced Drivers group (SEWAD)

    - A pre-test check by a SEWAD Advanced Tutor

    - Your RoSPA Advanced Test with a RoSPA approved examiner

    - 12 months membership of RoSPA's Advanced Drivers Association (RoADAR)

Membership Fee

The Standard Package is suitable for drivers of any experience who want to improve their general driving overall and eradicate faults. There is no Advanced Test built in to the package, but drivers will be encouraged to consider taking the test if they reach the required standard.

The Standard Package comprises:

    - An initial driving assessment with a volunteer SEWAD Approved Tutor

    - Regular  on road Tutorials** with a SEWAD Approved Tutor

    - Membership of the South East Wales Advanced Drivers group (SEWAD)

Membership Fee

* Associates who take the RoSPA Advanced Test are examined by independent Examiners. RoSPA cannot guarantee that Associates will reach the required standard and cannot be held liable for failure to obtain a particular grade.

** Tutorials are arranged in conjunction with the availability of the SEWAD Tutor and cannot be guaranteed that they will be undertaken within a specific period
